British Bangladeshi Who’s Who 2016 launched
Publication and Gala Dinner reaches New Heights

The British Bangladeshis have made their own place in multicultural Britain with contributions in their respective fields and have been playing a major role in the growth of this country. The British Bangladeshi Who’s Who publication emphasises the success of the Bangladeshi community and showcases it to both the British and Bangladeshi community in the UK. Former Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice Sailesh Vara MP, Banlgladeshi High Commissioner to the UK Nazmul Quaunine, Baroness Paula Manzila Uddin, Trade Envoy for Bangladesh Rushanara Ali MP, Managing Director of Strategy at Canary Wharf Group Howard Dawber, Mayor of Luton Cllr. Tahir Khan, Mayor of Camden Cllr. Nadia Shah and Clllr. Sabina Akhtar were present as special guests along with other dignitaries and leaders of Bangladeshi community at the 9th annual British Bangladeshi Who’s Who award ceremony and gala dinner. The enormous event was held on 17th of November at Meridian Grand in London.
In his speech, Mr Shailesh Vara MP said that, one can easily obtain a portrait of community contribution by reading the British Bangladeshi Who’s Who. He said that this publication portrays the achievements of senior and young British Bangladeshis who are contributing to the development of the community hugely. He emphasised that Bangladesh is an important partner of the UK and the country has advanced significantly in women’s education, child death and poverty alleviation. However, there are lots that still could be done.
The programme was Introduced with the opening remarks by Barrister Anawar Babul Miah who also welcomed guests. The event was presented by three most outstanding and highly accomplished presenters of present time, Zakir Khan, Shadia Sayed and Rez Kabir.
Barrister Shahadoth Karim, the Editor of British Bangladeshi Who’s Who delivered the welcome speech where he expressed his gratitude to everyone for their co-operation and said “The community has taken this publication as their own and indeed it is not a publication produced for one or two individuals or even a team, it is a publication produced, showcased and supported by the whole community and that makes it unique.” He also highlighted the fact that this publication would inspire future generations.

The British Bangladeshi Who’s Who 2016 publication were distributed as an insert into the UK’s no.1 British Bangla newspaper, the Bangla Mirror and will be available from the 25th November nationally across the UK. Readers can also log on to www.bbwhoswho.co.uk and find the 2008 to 2016 list. The British Bangladeshi Who’s Who is also available to read onboard on Biman Bangladesh airline. The publication has also achieved one of its many recognition of success from Biman, the national flag carrier of Bangladesh.
The awards were given to those who made significant contributions in the community as well as in the mainstream.
Cllr Parvez Ahmed, Mayor of London Borough of Brent, received his award from Howard Dawber, Managing Director, Strategy at Canary Wharf Group who was accompanied by Nikkita Mulchandani, Managing Directors of Meridian Grand.
Atique Islam Choudhury, a prolific property developer and Industrialist, received his award from Rushanara Ali MP, who was accompanied by Mahee Ferdush Jalil, Founder of Channel S.
Taj Brothers, Abdul Hai Khalique (Junel), Abdul Quayum Khalique (Jamal) and Abdul Muhith (Joynal) are the three brothers behind the internationally renowned grocers Taj Stores in Brick Lane. They received their awards from H. E. Mr Nazmul Quaunine, Bangladesh high commissioner to the UK, who was accompanied by Mohammed Shofiqul Islam, Country Manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines UK and Ireland.
Md Shahidul Alam (Ratan) the Director of Cricket, Capital Kids Cricket, a cricket development organisation working across London, received his award from Baroness Manzila Uddin, who was accompanied by Dr Nurul Alam, Managing Director of Alom & co and Kazi Arif, Managing Director of Prime Estate Agent.
Ruqsana Begum a British Atom weight kickboxing Champion , European Gold medallist and World bronze medallist, was awarded for her extra ordinary contribution in British sports. Ruqsana Begum was not present at the event for an urgent assignment in the USA, Shadia Syed received her award on her behalf from Shailesh Vara MP, Ex Parliamentary Under-Secretary Ministry of Justice, who was accompanied by Monir Ahmed, Managing Director of JMG Cargo and Mahbub Murshed, Managing Director of Mahbub & co.
The Bangla Mirror Group has been publishing the British Bangladeshi Who’s Who since 2008. The publication and event was the brainchild of the father and son who are the Editor in Chief and Editor respectively. This year’s publication consists of 270 individuals including medics, journalists, lawyers, businessmen, accountants and others from various walks of life.
